traffic sensors

The traffic measurement stations cooperate with traffic sensors, installed in the road pavement. The configuration of each sensor with a given measuring device allows different traffic parameters to be measured, which in effect gives a broad array of possibilities in order to take advantage of measurement data later on. 


Loop detectors (induction loops) are the coils installed in the road surface. The measurement of traffic volume is feasible using a single detector, whereas the measurement of vehicle speed and vehicle substitute electrical length calls for installing two induction loops. Additional parameters measured, such as time intervals between subsequent vehicles or the time of a vehicle’s presence over a loop detector are useful for logical algorithms to function in the road telematics systems. The analysis of the magnetic profile of a vehicle enables the realization of more compound algorithms of a classification of vehicles, e.g. 5+1 or 8+1.


Pneumatic detectors (rubber holes) allow to make short-term traffic measurements in cooperation with portable measuring devices which use pneumatic measurement method. Install rubber hoses runs non-ivasive; to their attachment uses a special nails. For accurate traffic measurement is required to install the two rubber hoses on each traffic lane. Less accuracy is obtained with use of two rubber hoses for the entire cross section of the two lanes carriageway. Traffic measurements are performed by analyzing changes in air pressure in the hoses under pressure of car's tires. Measuring devices allow to count vehicles and measure the axle spacing which is the base for the precise speed measurement and detailed cars classification according to the chosen classification scheme (e.g. E-13).
